Among the findings of The Imagine Nation, a random phone survey of 1,000 likely voters:

85 percent agree that basics alone are not enough for a 21st centruy workforce without the skills and ability to be imaginative, creative, and innovative.
78 percent agree that standardized testing does not encourage students to perform beyond the average and does not fully develop the imagination of students.

The nonprofit arts and culture industry generates $166.2 billion in economic activity annually.

The arts generate $29.6 billion in federal, state, and local tax revenues.

Arts organizations gererate 5.7 million full-time equivalent jobs.

State of Iowa 2007 Is it enough?

The following is taken from Iowa code 256.11 dealing with Educational Standards.

“The educational program shall be as follows:”

Paragraph 3 “The following areas shall be taught in grades one through
six: English-language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health,
human growth and development, physical education, traffic safety, music,
and visual art.”

Paragraph 4. “The following shall be taught in grades seven and eight:
English-language arts; social studies; mathematics; science; health; human
growth and development, family, consumer, career, and technology
education; physical education; music; and visual art.”

Paragraph 5 section i. “Three units in the fine arts which shall include
at least two of the following: dance, music, theatre, and visual art.”
