Students displayed their works in a juried exhibition. While students and teachers attended morning workshops, the work was judged by Sara Sheets, Independence, a free-lance artist who is a retired art teacher from East Buchanan School District. Categories for the competition included: printmaking, drawing, colored drawing, painting, craft, sculpture, ceramics, computer media, photography, and mixed media.
The workshops featured Iowa artists and educators. Bethany Hackman, formerly of Elgin, discussed her work as an illustrator and graphic designer. Kelly Ludeking, formerly of Decorah, gave a presentation on his sculpture and metal casting. Rita Rickels, who teaches at Muscatine High School gave a presentation on art education. Sheets and Rickels are Upper Iowa University alumni. Hackman is a UNI graduate. Ludeking is a graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
