This is for license renewal only, so no outside class work.  The weekend workshop is open to anyone whether an educator or just someone interested in learning how to identify and collect wild willow and make a built basket.  This will give you the basic skills needed to expand into other forms.

Early October is a wonderful time of year:  cool and no mosquitos.  The two-day class is $60 with an additional materials fee.

New Fine Arts Consultant for Iowa DOE

Matsuoka is the New Fine Arts Consultant for the Iowa Department of Education.

My name is Angela Matsuoka, and I am the new Fine Arts Consultant for the Iowa Department of Education. I began my position at the DOE on July 1st.

A bit about me:  I’m originally from Seattle, WA.  I earned my B.A. in Studio Art from Grinnell College, and my M.A. in Art Education from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.  I taught at the high school and middle school levels in Washington D.C. before returning to Iowa in 2009.  From 2009 to 2014, I taught K-5 art in Urbandale Schools, and most recently served as Northwest Elementary’s art teacher in the Ankeny School district from 2014-2016.  My husband, our three year-old son Javy, and I reside in the Beaverdale neighborhood in Des Moines.


AEI Summer Retreat 2016

Dear AEI Retreat Participants, 

The AEI Summer Retreat and Board Meeting is next week and what a great event this is going to be!   Special thanks to the efforts of Jenna Darsee and Liz Bloomburg for all their work in coordinating this year’s event.
1.  Here’s the link to register  for the Summer Retreat and to reserve your selection for overnight accommodations.  Please register by June 15 so we can finalize overnight accommodations.
2.  Itinerary and the board agenda will follow registration and submission of reports.
3.  Complete the Summer Board Report by June 15 All board members are asked to complete this for a quorum.  Please include any budgetary requests for your board or program needs for the Executive team as we will use the information to determine the 2016-2017 Annual Budget.
4.  Committee Chairs:  Please submit a  2015-2016 Committee & Financial Reports and the Profit & Loss form by June 20 if you haven’t already done so this year.   All board members are asked to complete these for a quorum.  Please include any budgetary requests.
5.  Board members are asked to complete the 2015-16 AEI Annual Board Report.  Make a copy to complete then share with me by June 20.  Also share this with

Outdoor Art Market, MacNider Arts Festival

Hello all!

My name is Lindsay Thompson and I am contacting you about the Outdoor Art Market held during the MacNider Arts Festival.  It will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016.  Mara Linskey-Deegan and I have switched Festival duties this year and I am very excited to be in charge of the 2016 Outdoor Art Market.  For those who do not know me, I have worked at the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum for almost two years and am in charge of the museum shop, rental events, and a lot of the advertising.
