Public Input Sought on Every Student Succeeds Act

There are seven remaining meetings across the state where DE leaders will be seeking public input as they develop the Iowa plan for ESSA.  It would be great to have an arts education advocates at each of these meetings.
Please look over this information, and share it within your organizations, friends and other arts education stakeholders.   If you know that you or other advocates will be attending one of these meeting, please let me know so we can monitor this and make sure we have arts education advocates at each meeting.
Thanks so much for your help.  Please contact me if you have any questions, or IAAE can help you in any way.  Click here for dates and more information.

Visual Culture & Gender Call for Manuscripts

                                     Visual Culture & Gender

2017 VCG Call for Manuscripts
Visual Culture & Gender (VCG http://vcg.emitto.net) was born digital more than a decade ago in 2005 as the first multimedia online journal in the field of art education, and the first online journal devoted to visual culture and gender. VCG is an international, peer-reviewed, freely accessed, multimedia online journal whose purpose is to encourage and promote an understanding of the connections between visual culture and gender in concert with representations of race, age, sexuality, social units, (dis)ability and social class.

Submit your Manuscript

The deadline to submit manuscripts is Saturday, November 15, 2016, 11:59 PM EDT

The 2017 VCG Call for Manuscripts invites submissions of articles and visual essays that explore issues of equity and social justice through visual culture. November 15 is the deadline for submissions. VCG will consider manuscripts that address gender issues in the context of visual culture and arts education.

VCG Volume 11 is Live Online

In Volume 11, authors consider witnessing, performance, and complexity of trauma, mental illness, and women artists who have been all but forgotten. Witnessing can be of your own life, of others’ lives, or witnessing the act of witnessing itself. Witnessing is performed and can be especially powerful when shared with others. Performance witnessing is public pedagogy.

Sample Willow Basket

This is for license renewal only, so no outside class work.  The weekend workshop is open to anyone whether an educator or just someone interested in learning how to identify and collect wild willow and make a built basket.  This will give you the basic skills needed to expand into other forms.

Early October is a wonderful time of year:  cool and no mosquitos.  The two-day class is $60 with an additional materials fee.

Hope to see a few of you this fall,
