Dawn's Hide & Bead Away is excited to offer a PMC Certification
course through the Rio Rewards program. This is the first time this
program has been offered in Iowa. Artist and instructor Patrik Kusek
will present an intensive precious metal clay workshop on Fri-Sun,
August 7th, 8th, and 9th, 9am to 5pm each day. This workshop will
take place in the spacious studio at Dawn's Hide & Bead Away, located
in downtown Iowa City, Iowa, right across from the Enlgert
Theatre. Registration cost is $425. Registration deadline is July 11,
2009.

The Rio Grande Rio Rewards PMC Certification class is designed for
the serious and dedicated PMC enthusiast who seeks the recognition
that a standardized level of expertise offers. The curriculum is
demanding and tests specific skills and techniques (apart from
artistry) for working with PMC. Those who attend should already have
working experience with PMC and be comfortable with techniques such
as slip-joining, creating hollow forms, constructing rings and
working with two- and three-dimensional forms.

A series of seven specific projects test students' proficiency in
using PMC in a variety of ways. Techniques taught include stamping,
carving, simple tool-making, gem-setting, building a hollow form,
embellishing beads, patterning, texturing, mold-making, making slip,
ring sizing, rehydrating PMC and surface finishes. Also included are
various firing techniques, from kiln-firing to torch-firing, gold
PMC, discussions on metallurgy, gemology, teaching techniques and
ways to set up a PMC business.

Students who complete the workshop will become certified to teach PMC
classes and will come away equipped with advanced skills and
knowledge prepared to incorporate PMC more fully into their own
work. Certified teachers get special prices on PMC and associated
tools and equipment from the company.
