Peggy Bang is a visual arts instructor at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. She has been a long time member of Art Educators of Iowa. One of her first accomplishments was to be the first coordinator for the statewide Youth Art Month. After years of teaching elementary art, Peggy received her MS from Bank Street College in cooperation with Parsons School of Design in New York. She has been described as “one of the most responsible, creative, and stimulating instructors in her division”. Peggy has been a strong leader in the community, serving as a board member for the MacNider Art Museum for the past 21 years. She was a founding member of the MacNider Art Museum foundation and current Vice-President, ensuring the future stability of the museum. Peggy also has a passion for architecture and was instrumental in the restoration of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Stockman House in Mason City, IA. With her husband she also restored her home, the 1912 Melson House, to its original architectural Prairie School purity. She opened her home to tours for art teachers during our 2004 State Art Educators Conference. Peggy Bang is a wonderful example of art in action. Her teaching goes far beyond the walls of a school, a community, or a state. Peggy’s energy and enthusiasm for art is an inspiration to us all. It is with great pleasure that I present Peggy Bang with Art Educators of Iowa’s award for Outstanding Higher Ed Art Educator of the year. |
