Personal Statement

My thanks to the Art Educators of Iowa from AEA 267 who nominated me to receive this award. I am privileged to be on a life journey with many talented art and cultural leaders.

“Model the way and encourage others” to immerse themselves in arts events:

·      Teach/Learn from a rigor/relevance framework to challenge learners (acquisition, application, assimilation, adaptation)

·      Link the arts to initiatives, i.e. service learning, character counts

·      Integrate the arts into related curricular areas utilizing research based brain practices

·      Use technology to expand arts resources

·      Use local artists to enhance arts experiences

·      Seek funding for arts materials/experiences, i.e. Iowa Arts Council Grants

·      Seek out populations who need to be exposed to art experiences
