For the seventh consecutive year, the Des Moines Art Center is holding the All-State Art Camp for students interested in pursuing the visual arts in college and those preparing portfolios for Art Educators of Iowa All-State Art Competition. Students must have completed their freshman year in high school with at least a 2.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
What to expect:
- Improve your figure drawing skills as you draw from the nude model under the direction of the Art Center’s visiting artist Tracy Duran, M.F.A. California State University at Fullerton.
- Work with Caye Dreiss, M.F.A. Cranbrook Academy of Art, as you master the basics of intaglio printmaking.
- Learn about artists and architects whose works are part of the Des Moines Art Center’s collections.
- See and discuss works of art included in the Art Center’s permanent collections.
- Discuss the function of art in society.
- Learn how to prepare an outstanding All-State Art Competition portfolio.
Details:
- This is a commuter camp. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to and from the Des Moines Art Center.
- For students needing housing, area art teachers are willing to host students for the week.
- Tuition is $325 and all art materials are provided. The cost to members of the Des Moines Art Center is $260 (20% discount).
- Limited scholarship money is available.
- You must be nominated by your art teacher. The deadline for applications is May 1, 2009.
